Our Project
In what is one of the worst weathers we have ever found during a via ferrata activity, we found the perfect conditions for CJE's safety training in Portugal.
We left Lisbon early in the morning, arriving to the site at Serra das Talhadas a bit before lunch time.
Sitting under a fire watch tower, this is one of the most complete Via Ferratas in Portugal, with many different sections allowing us to try all kind of different obstacles and even more perfect for trying some of the safety exercises.
Some of the participants were doing it for the first time but every single one of them got the hang of how a ferrata works. The equipment, the safety rules, how to progress in the Via Ferrata. And, of course, the emergency measures. We made use of the vertical walls and some harder to cross sections to explain how to use a Prusik Loop to create extra anchor points where we can rest or how to use sewn slings to make an extra step.
We won't lie, it was a hard demanding day, but it was extremely rewarding to finish the circuit, reaching the watch tower with a feeling of accomplishment and mission complete.
To celebrate our achievements we head out to Benfica's House in Abrantes for a beautiful meal and football (because this is Portugal after all).
All these moments are only possible due to the amazing project Operation Hook II (You can read more about it below), and E29's constant thrive to do cool stuff.
